That time we built a second treehouse

Treehouse Two is now all go. Foundations are in the ground, and we are over halfway into the Treehouse build at Shape Construction in Christchurch. Once it’s complete it will then be brought down here on a large truck and craned into the Nest Forest. So far, we have avoided the multitude of challenges which left us stumped in the original build – (we are still to attack the swing bridge yet so the fun may still be to come!)

Knowing the lay of the land (or slope of it more accurately) has meant Dave McCrea our builder, his team and Andy knew just how to attack the second build from the start, and it’s been smooth sailing for the first stage of construction. One of the biggest issues we’ve faced is trying to snatch days to build between guests – to ensure disruption is at a minimum. (Something we didn’t have to think of the first time around).

I simply can’t wait to see this treehouse come to fruition. In many ways it will be similar to the first, we have made some exciting changes and additions to the design – but I think its positioning in the trees which will really set it off.

It is on the far end of the Nest Forest from our original treehouse, you cannot hear or see one treehouse from the other. Nest two has been built lower down into the trees almost giving it more of an authentic treehouse feel but keeping the stunning view out into the valley floor and patchwork hills and fields below.

We are working on another couple of surprises in the trees but will keep these under wraps until the build is completed, hopefully in May. We have no doubt the next few months will present more challenges with covid still causing a headache to get staff on the ground and continued supply issues – but as we said during the original build it’s all part of the fun – wish us luck!
